What is Psychology ?

Psychology is the scientific study of human behaviour. The therapies that psychologists use are based on empirical research.

A Registered Psychologist is a person who has completed 7 - 8 years university study in Psychology, (a bachelor’s degree, a master’s degree and a postgraduate diploma in a specialised field of Psychology or other PG registration program, which includes a supervised internship. They are registered with the New Zealand Psychologists Board and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC). All Psychologists are required to have regular professional supervision and complete a Continuing Competency Programme (CCP) of ongoing professional development annually. Psychologists are also members of professional bodies such as the New Zealand Psychological Society or the College of Clinical Psychologist, and follow a code of ethics. Only registered psychologists can legally call themselves psychologists.

When should you consider seeing a psychologist?

When you are feeling overwhelmed, anxious, stressed, when life feels hopeless and you feel you are not coping. When you can't focus or concentrate or are engaing in behaviours that are determential to you or those around you. If this sounds like you, get in touch - because you are NOT alone. The Psychologists' Collective

The Psychologists' Collective is a group of registered Psychologists. Each Psychologist runs their own private practice separate to The Psychologists' Collective and are not employed by The Psychologists' Collective. Any clinical responsibility or oversight for any client engaged with the psychologist is part of the psychologist's private practice. The relationship and conditions are between the psychologist and are bound by the terms of engagement as set out by that psychologist and are seen as clients of the psychologist's private practice. This also applies to the Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Therapists and Behaviour Specialists and any other health professional working through The Psychologists' Collective.
