Fees and financial support

What will it cost?

Seeing a psychologist can be anything from 5 to 20 or more sessions depending on the issues, therapy modality and responsiveness. Typically 10-15 sessions is achievable. The cost of a psychologist varies from around $180-220+gst per 50 minute session. Initial appointments maybe longer and incur a higher fee. This will be discussed with you by the psychologist at the time. Additional letters / reports are charged as above. Adult/child ADHD assessments range from $1600-1800+gst. Autism assessments and specific learning assessments are approximately $850+gst.

Funding may be available from the following sources:

  • Work and Income can provide partial funding if you meet their criteria.
  • If you have a physical, intellectual or learning disability, Work and Income may assist if you meet their criteria.
  • ACC will fund assistance with working through sexual trauma that occurred in New Zealand. Refer to the sensitive claims pathway. Other support can be available for the March 15 Mosque tragedy via ACC or Victim support.
  • Some insurance policies will cover psychological assistance - check your policy with your insurance company. If you are a healthcare professional and a member of the Medical Protection Society, you may be eligible for assistance through this service.
  • If you are a CDHB staff member, you may be eligible for assistance through the Wellbeing, Health and Safety Team.
  • Employment related issues can also be supported by your organization's wellness/EAP programs.
  • We are available for Wellnz clients.
  • Other sources of funding - if you have a teenager or young adult up to 24 years old, get in touch with us.

The Psychologists' Collective

The Psychologists' Collective is a group of registered Psychologists. Each Psychologist runs their own private practice separate to The Psychologists' Collective and are not employed by The Psychologists' Collective. Any clinical responsibility or oversight for any client engaged with the psychologist is part of the psychologist's private practice. The relationship and conditions are between the psychologist and are bound by the terms of engagement as set out by that psychologist and are seen as clients of the psychologist's private practice. This also applies to the Occupational Therapist, Speech Language Therapists and Behaviour Specialists and any other health professional working through The Psychologists' Collective.
